Celebrating her 101st Birthday is Mrs. Maude Olga Williams of Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, Berbice. Born on May 8, 1920, she is familiarly known as, “Aunt Maude, Granny, Neighbor Williams, and Cousin Maude”. She has lived her entire life in Stanleytown, and most noteworthy, she has been living at the same residence for over sixty-eight years.  She is the mother of seven kids, of which three have passed on, in addition to her husband.  Furthermore, she is a proud grandmother and great grandmother.

Aunt Maude has always been a dedicated mother and homemaker. In her younger days, she was a stylish dress-maker, likewise, she had a passion for crocheting (of which she still does a little presently as a pastime activity). She has been a very keen gardener and enjoyed attending to her livestock and poultry. As she ages, occasionally, she likes to bake her little treats such as her own favorite homemade bread, and coconut buns, with some assistance from her granddaughter Yvette who resides with her. Above all, she loves to share her treats with her friends and family. Her favorite goodies are cheese rolls, dhal-phouri, sponge cake, ice cream, and fried rice.

Aunt Maude has always been a “God-fearing” person. Her favorite inspiring words that she shares with all that she comes into contact with is: “Always Put God First in Your Life”. Over the last few years, she has not been able to physically attend her weekly Sunday Mass at church, so her Pastor and Church members visit her at her residence to pray with her and provide her with Holy Communion.

With a passion for current affairs, Aunt Maude keeps abreast by reading her daily newspaper. She similarly enjoys spending a good portion of her day watching the television. And, she loves watching soap operas.

For other pastime activities, Aunt Maude enjoys playing a competitive game of Chinese Checkers and Snakes-N-Ladders. Additionally, she adores solving crossword puzzles which may be a contributing factor to the current alertness of her mental state.

She likes to keep up with her friends and family, making frequent telephone calls to check in to see how they are doing. Unfortunately, this year her friends and relatives cannot celebrate this momentous occasion with her due to the global pandemic.  God’s willing, they will be able to celebrate her 102nd birthday together.

We at Guyana Graphic join with all who know and love Mrs. Maude Olga Williams, in wishing her all the very best for her 101st birthday.
