Aircraft crashes in the Mazaruni area, crew found dead

Olive Creek airstrip located at the junction of the Kurupung and Mazaruni Rivers

A Trans Guyana Airways aircraft registration 8R-GHS, went missing on Saturday January 18, 2014 at around 10:56 am. The aircraft had taken off from Olive Creek airstrip located at the junction of the Kurupung and Mazaruni Rivers and was heading to Imbaimadai. Another aircraft in the vicinity reported to Air Traffic Control that they heard the distress transmission of the missing aircraft.

According to Guyana’s Transport Minister Robeson Benn the aircraft was on a technical survey mission for the Amaila Falls hydropower access road to do a LIDAR (Laser Imaging Detection and Ranging) survey for the best geometrical and other alignments for the road.

Guyana Airways Douglas DC-6A Registration N3486F Crashes Killing All Crewmembers

On Monday November 30, 1981 Guyana Airways Douglas DC-6A registration N3486F departing out of Vigie Airport, Castries St. Lucia enroute to Jamaica crashed after declaring an emergency.

The crew of the four engine cargo aircraft declared an emergency shortly after take-off and attempted to return for a landing when they aircraft hit a row of trees to the left of the runway, about 200 yards from the tower.

N87V missing aircraft with crew

A search-and-rescue operation was underway Sunday November 02, 2008 after a plane hired by a Canadian mining company disappeared in the Amazon jungle of Guyana.

The aircraft N87V, with three people aboard, was doing uranium survey work for Prometheus Resources Guyana Inc., a subsidiary of U308 Corp. of Toronto.
