Alleged conversation threatening Kaieteur News by Guyana's Attorney-General Anil Nandlall

Guyana's Attorney-General Anil Nandlall

Last evening a recording was made public of an alleged telephone conversation between journalist Leonard Gildarie and Guyana’s Attorney General Anil Nandlall. If this recording turns out to be the voice of Mr. Nandlall I believe it is only right for all the law abiding citizens that the President of Guyana ask for Mr. Nandlall’s resignation. The content of the conversation not only undermines the very office which Mr. Anil Nandlall has sworn to uphold, but gives further credence to what has been rumored over the last 22 years of corruption, and murderous victimization of opponents of the PPP administration.

Kaieteur News already has been under attack as demonstrated by the execution style killing of five pressmen, Eon Wegman, Shazim Mohamed, Richard Stuart, Mark Maikoo and Chaitram at the offices of Kaieteur News on August 8, 2006.

Another member of the Guyanese media Ronald Waddell was also executed outside of his home on January 30, 2006.

For the citizens to have trust in the very people that are sworn to protect them and uphold the law of the land, it is imperative that the government act in a clear, concise and transparent manner to substantiate their claims of governing for ALL people.

As dawn broke today President Donald Ramotar should have asked Attorney-General Anil Nandlall at the very least to step aside pending an investigation. We look forward to some swift action on this very important matter as this revelation comes on the heels of the inquiry into the alleged assassination of Walter Rodney. All must have “clean hands” for the people to have faith and confidence in the system.

An excerpt of the alleged telephone conversation.

"AG: everybody doesn’t have a newspaper to use as a weapon, I told Adam, I said Adam people got weapons right, is not newspaper they gonna use as a weapon they got weapons and when you continue attack people like that and they have no way of responding they gun just walk with their weapon into that same fucking saffon street office and wha come suh do and innocent Peter gun gah pay fuh fucking Paul in deh one day, me ah tell you innocent, me a tell you honestly man to man that will happen soon...
