Carmen Subryan

Carmen Subryan i is a Guyanese writer, teacher, and poet. Born in McKenzie, Guyana, she is a descendant of the Allicock family and has written historical novels about her family roots.

Two novels, Black-Water People and Black-Water Children explore the Scottish and African roots of the family; the third novel examines relations between the sexes in 40's, 50's and 60's Guyana.

She has also written two volumes of poetry, Reprise and Rachel's Tears. She has been on the faculty of Howard University for 38 years.
