The story of the Ramblers goes back to around 1950 in Georgetown, British Guiana when the last three siblings of the Serrao family started playing with make believe guitars made out of empty herring cans attached to a wooden pole, for the finger board, and four rubber bands secured with wooden heads used as tuning keys.

Edwin Richard Denys Moulder (October 09, 1875 - November 21, 1942)

The son of a former vicar, Edwin Moulder was educated at Queen's College, in Georgetown, where he won the Guiana Scholarship in 1891, and at Merton College, Oxford. He gained third class honours in History in 1895. He qualified as a Bachelor of Arts in 1896 and served as Assistant Master, Lodge School, Barbados, from 1899 to 1901.

Dr. Leon C. Wilson, formerly the dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, has been named interim provost and vice president for Academic Affairs at Alabama State University. Wilson has served as dean of ASU’s College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences since 2011.

Poet John Agard is selected for Queen's poetry medal

John Agard

Guyana-born poet John Agard has been named as the recipient of The Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry for 2012.

The award is presented for excellence in poetry, with previous recipients including WH Auden, John Betjeman and Philip Larkin.

Agard, who writes for both adults and children, moved to the UK from Guyana in 1977.
