Register to vote

The leader of the opposition party David Granger is calling Guyanese to register to vote. The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) started the 7th cycle of the Continuous Registration on December 1, 2014 in its 27 permanent GECOM Registration Offices located in all of Guyana’s ten Administrative Regions. The exercise will conclude on February 21, 2015.

To be eligible for registration:

  • You must be 14 years old or older by March 31, 2015
  • Guyanese citizen by birth, descent, naturalization, or is a citizen from a Commonwealth country living in Guyana for one year or more.

Source documents required for registration

  • An original Birth Certificate issued by the General Register Office or a valid Guyana Passport
  • Original Marriage Certificate and original Birth Certificate – in the case of a name change by way of marriage.
  • Original Deed Poll and original Birth Certificate – in the case of any change of name by Deed Poll.
  • Original Naturalization Certificate issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs and original Birth Certificate/Valid Passport – in the case of naturalization.

Upon registration

  • You will be issued with a National Identification Card
  • Included on the official list of electors for future elections if you meet the eligibility criteria.

It is the civic duty and responsibility of all Guyanese who met the eligibility requirements to apply for registration during this Cycle of Continuous Registration.
