Visitor Visa Applicants under 14 years old and over the age of 80

Any applicant under 14 or over 80 applying for a Visitor’s visa (B1, B2, B1/B2), who have not previously had a U.S Visa application denied may use the special Age Requirement - Personal Appearance Waiver.

Qualifying persons may submit their documents and passport directly to the U.S Embassy during the Interview Waiver Program time - Wednesdays at 2:00 p.m. You must log into our Visa Information Website to secure this appointment to drop off your documents. You will not have to see a Consular Officer.

For minor children, both parents must have a valid U.S. visa.

Additional Documents Required

In addition to the standard documents required for each visa type, the following documents are required for applicants under 14 using this special exemption:

  • Minor child’s original birth certificate and adoption decree, if adopted 
  • Legible copies of both parents’ or legal guardian’s valid U.S. visa 
  • Legible copies of both parents’ or legal guardian’s biographical page of their valid passport 
  • If only one parent has full legal custody, then a copy of court documents showing custody should be submitted 
  • If the second parent is deceased, a copy of the death certificate is required 
  • Do not submit parents’ actual passports. Copies of the passports and visas are sufficient.

In addition to all the required documents, applicants 80 years of age and older must submit:

  • Any and all previous passports with visas
