Georgetown Mashramani children's competition kick off

The National Cultural Centre (NCC) came alive earlier today as the Georgetown chapter of the children’s Mashramani competition got underway.

Collette Haratio, the event Regional Literacy Officer of Georgetown expressed optimism that this year’s competitions will be a somewhat better than previous years. Haratio believes that these presentations are a reminder of Guyana’s rich history and culture.

The five days of competitions is being held under the theme: “Cultural Folklores, Celebrating 44”.

The categories in this year’s competitions are: Dramatic Poetry, Calypso, Dance, Masquerade, Costume Competition and Physical Display.

Today February 3, 2014 and Wednesday the dance and masquerade competitions will be held at NCC, then Thursday the competitions will move over to the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall where the costume and physical display will take place.

February 12-14, the winners from the various districts will come together at NCC to compete at the Children’s Mashramani competitions finals commencing 9:30 am.

The Children’s costume parade will be held on February 15 beginning at 10:00 am starting from Parade Ground.
