A korjaal, a word of Dutch origin (pronounced corial) is a hollowed out tree trunk that is pointed at both ends and is used as a boat on the rivers of Guyana and Suriname.
These boats are normally smaller than a canoe and can accommodate only one or two persons. They are primarily built by Amerindians and others who migrated to the riverain areas. This vital means of transportation is used by all the family; to get around from farm to farm and for children to get to school.
