Businessman and licensed firearm holder Ian Evans shot and killed one of three criminals who robbed the family's grocery store located in Dazzell Housing Scheme East Coast Demerara. The robbery happened at 2:15 pm today.
However, the other two bandits made good their escape with an undisclosed sum of cash and jewelry belonging to the family.
Crime Chief and Deputy Police Commissioner Seelall Persaud confirmed the report of the crime and shooting this afternoon.
For the year so far, there have been a significant amount of gun crimes but authorities have been successful in their efforts to capture most of the perpetrators.
Crime Chief Persaud said that police are continuing to increase their efforts to address the spike in armed robberies, with the intention of curbing such activities.
Investigations into this crime continue.
