Guyanese Born N.Y. Police Officer Slain in Pursuit of a Suspect

New York Police Officer Randolph Holder

A New York Police Officer died after he was shot in the head on Tuesday night while chasing a robbery suspect, authorities reported.

Guyanese born Officer Randolph Holder was shot while responding to reports of a gunman in East Harlem, and he died a few hours later, Police Commissioner William J. Bratton said.

The gunman, who has not yet been identified to the public, was wanted by police for questioning in connection to a previous shooting, and has close to 20 prior arrests, some for violent crimes, according to a law enforcement official.

Reports stated that the suspect was arrested four blocks away from where Holder was shot, and is in a hospital with gunshot wounds in his leg. Three other men were taken into custody for questioning on their possible involvement.

Officer Holder was the son and grandson of Police Officers, he was born in Guyana and moved to the USA in the last decade and joined the New York City Police Department.

The staff of Guyana Graphic extends our sincere condolences to Officer Randolph Holder’s family, friends and colleagues in the NYPD.
