October 19, 1953 - Forbes Burnham and Cheddi Jagan at Atkinson Field to board a charter plane of travel to Suriname then to London for a meeting with the British government. The meeting was to discuss the British Government's suspension of the British Guiana Constitution.
D’Aguiar Imperial House (DIH) - A Landmark and a Legacy
A few hundred feet from the iconic Stabroek Market clock tower, at Water Street and Brickdam, Georgetown, Guyana, stands D’Aguiar Imperial House (DIH). Built in the late 1940s DIH sits prominently in the Stabroek Market square a central meeting point for people for all parts of Guyana.
Royal Bank of Canada in Guyana 1914 - 1984
In 1914 Royal Bank of Canada purchased the British Guiana Bank that had opened in 1836. Royal Bank of Canada became the second foreign-owned commercial bank in the history of the country. The bank was located at 38-40 Water Street, Georgetown at the corner of Robb and Water Streets

The Singapore Memorial is located in the Kranji War Cemetery and bears the names of over 24,000 casualties of the Commonwealth land and air forces who have no known grave. Many of these have no known date of death and are accorded the date or period from when they were known to be missing or captured.

37th Anniversary of Terrorist Attack on Cubana Flight 455
On October 06, 1976 a terrorist bomb exploded on Cubana Airline flight 455 causing it to crash into the sea off the coast of St James Barbados killing all 73 of the passengers and crew.
Of the passengers there were 57 Cuban, 11 Guyanese and 5 North Koreans. The Cuban national youth fencing team were among the dead, as were a number of young Guyanese academic scholarship winners who were traveling to Cuba to pursue studies in medicine.
Granting of Airport facilities to the U.S. Government during the 1940s
In a secret Memorandum by the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs titled “Grant of Air Facilities to the United States” dated July 18, 1940 it was stated that in a May 24, 1940 telegram, the British Ambassador in Washington, DC USA “outlined proposals for the grant of naval and air facilities to the United States in neighbouring British colonies and Newfoundland.”
