United Nations Human Development Report - 2011
Guyana has been ranked by the UN at 117th place (5th from the bottom) in the Human Development Index, ahead of only Honduras, Nicaragua, Guatemala and Haiti in the Caribbean and Latin American countries category.
The report also shows that:
•The Life expectancy at birth for Guyana is 69.9 years, only above Bolivia
•The expected years of Schooling is 11.9, 5th from the bottom
Barbados may help rescue REDjet
Prime Minister Freundel Stuart says his administration has not turned its back on REDjet, insisting that the airline would not be treated as “some cast-off child”.
Speaking at a public meeting of his ruling Democratic Labour Party (DLP), Stuart said that some concerns still needed to be addressed about the carrier before the government could consider investing in its operations.
Last month, a senior Barbados government minister said that efforts were being made to have REDjet resume operations within a two-month period.
Caricom officials meet in Guyana to discuss energy
State Minister in the Ministry of Energy, Laurie Broderick, is to lead Jamaica's team to Thursday's meeting of energy ministers from the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) in Georgetown, Guyana.
