Frank Casimir Bettencourt (80), of Port Saint Lucie, Florida, passed away on January 26th, 2023.

Jessie Rebecca Arthur DeFlorimonte was born in Hopetown Berbice, Guyana, South America on May 26, 1922, the sixth of seven children to the parents of William Arthur and Jessie James Arthur.  She was the matriarch of the Arthur family and the last one of her siblings to transition.  Her formal education was acquired at Bedford Methodist Primary School.  At a very young age, Jessie

Patrick Alphonso Gonsalves was a Guyanese recording artist who was born on December 25, 1948 and died on December 25, 2022. Patrick or Pato as he was fondly referred to, was the 6th of eleven children, born to the late Dolly and Francisco Gonsalves of Plantation Ross, on the West Coast of Berbice.

Kurt Andre Fraser was born on Wednesday, June 15, 1977 in Anna Regina, Guyana to Fitz Herbert (Clyde) Fraser and Doris Monica Fraser (nee Philander). Kurt was the youngest of the Frasers’ biological children, and was viewed as one of the cutest babies, by one of his sisters.

Justine Andrea Lee Burnett, PhD, 34, together with her unborn daughter, Maleah Julianne Burnett, entered eternity on Saturday, November 26, 2022, in Morgantown, West Virginia.  She was beloved by many, given her exceptional ability to connect with people. With her quintessential laugh and oftentimes mischievous facial expressions, no one could tell a story like Justine.

Ann Fung, also known as granny, Annie, Aunty Annie or just Ann. Born and raised in Charlestown, Georgetown, Guyana on April 8th 1941 to parents Percis Helena and James Arthur St Clair Bowen.

Lorna Meigan Chan born in Georgetown, Guyana on January 3, 1935, passed away in her sleep on June 14th, 2022, at eighty-seven years old. Lorna’s mother was Nellie Helens Young (1908 – 1935) and her father, Jabez Cromwell (1889 -1944).

Yvonne Baddeir of Calgary, AB, Canada, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 13, 2022, at the age of 88 years.

Yvonne was born in Georgetown, Guyana, South America on November 7, 1933. She immigrated to Calgary, Alberta, in 1989.

Arnold Sigismund Godette passed away on Monday, May 24, 2021 at home in Atlanta, GA, surrounded by his family two days after his 92nd birthday. Born on May 22, 1929, Arnold was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and uncle. He was the eldest of 9 children born to Wilfred and Dorothy Godette. Born in Georgetown, the capital of Guyana, Arnold was raised in New Amsterdam, Berbice.

Obituary of Gillian Patricia Rodrigues

Gillian Patricia Rodrigues, born on May 6, 1958, in Georgetown Guyana, passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 26, 2021. She was the second child of Leila (Rodrigues) Henry and Sigismund Augustus Martindale. She emigrated to the United States in 1979.

Dr. Edgar O. Yhap, of The Woodlands, TX died in his home, on October 17th, 2014. He was 88 years old. Dr. Yhap is survived by his wife Nadine, and children, Larry Yhap of Santa Cruz, CA, Nina Mulderrig of San Francisco, CA, Catherine Bonargent of Paris, France, and Diane Csapo of Seattle, WA and Christine Yhap-Kleckner of The Woodlands, TX.

Brian Anthony Hutt, age 65, of West Palm Beach, Florida passed away on January 25, 2021. Brian was born in Guyana on October 2, 1955.

Keith Colin O’Neil Sr., born on May 3, 1948 in Georgetown, Guyana, to Hubert O’Neil and Eulah Taylor, passed away on January 20, 2021 in Columbia, Maryland at Howard County Hospital after a long struggle with cancer.

Joan Leoline John who was born in Beterverwagting, Guyana, and resided in Hartford, Connecticut passed away on September 22, 2020.

Dr. Ralph C. Gomes, professor in the Department of Sociology and Criminology at Howard University, died on Monday, March 16, 2020. He is survived by two sons, R. Christopher, Jr. and R. Alexander, six grandchildren, eight sisters and two brothers. Ralph was predeceased by his daughter, Sasha and parents, Lena and Lionel Gomes of Guyana and three siblings.

Professor Harold Drayton, a distinguished academic who was instrumental in the establishment of the University of Guyana, died on Sunday March 11 in Gaithersburg Maryland, United States.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of my brother-in-law David Macgregor Reid who lost the race with cancer early this morning. David will be remembered as one of the early members of GMRC. In those days leather “lumber-jacks” and dungarees were the "protective clothing on South Dakota Circuit.

Neil Vibert Ignatius Michael Chan was born on November 4, 1929 to parents Solomon Chan and Ruby Beckles in Georgetown, Guyana. He had one brother Hubert and sister Patricia who both predeceased him. Neil and his devoted wife, Sheila, shared fifty-eight years of marriage based on love, devotion and mutual respect.

Donna A. (Shepherd) London, 60, died in her home on Tuesday, October 10, 2017, after a long illness. She leaves her husband of 37 years, Ivor C. London; her daughter, Astrid Walker and husband Fred of Upper Marlboro, MD; her son, Colin E. London of Worcester; five brothers, Leslie Cameron and his wife Hazel, Lloyd Hamilton and his wife Dionne, James Shepherd, Jr.

Clarice was the daughter of William and Isabella McKenzie.  She was born in Springlands, East Berbice.  She was the youngest of the 3 children of William and Isabella McKenzie; Claude McKenzie and Joan McKenzie being the other two.

Josephus Avellinus DeSilva “ Sweetie Man”, 91, passed away late Wednesday night, January 25th, peacefully at home, surrounded by his family. Josephus was born in Georgetown, Guyana, on November 10th, 1925. He was the son of the late John DeSilva and Mary Philomina DeSilva.

Jasmat “Doris” DeSilva, 84, passed away early Monday morning, January 2nd, peacefully at home, surrounded by her family. Jasmat was born in Plantation Versailles, Guyana, on April 23rd, 1932. She was the daughter of the late Bhudo Ramkaran and Bhagwanden Ramkaran and the eldest of three siblings.

On Friday, December 16, 2016, Lady Sara Lou Carter of Bethesda, Maryland, died peacefully at the age of 93.

Vincent "Sweetie Man" Da SIlva, Owner/Manager of Special Security Services passed away after a brief illness. 

Vincent Anastasius Da Silva of South Road Bourda, Georgetown, Guyana was the son of the late Jose and Ursula Da SIlva. He was the husband of Donna Dias Da SIlva and father of Roseitta Da Silva, Nicole Melville and Vincent Da Silva.

Lucille Agatha London was born on December 28th, 1921 to Egbert and Elizabeth Nedd. She was the twelfth of her parents' fourteen children, and was predeceased by all of her siblings. Born into a rural life in D'Edward Village, Berbice, Guyana, she and her family were staunch members of the Congregational Church.

Randolph (Evan, as you know him) was the son of Dennan and Vita Liverpool (now deceased). Evan was born in Tuschen, West Coast Demerara, Guyana.

Icebreaker captain, husband, father, favourite uncle, funnyman. Born Jan. 2, 1935, in Georgetown, British Guiana. Died July 31, 2011, in Dartmouth, N.S., of non-Hodgkin lymphoma, aged 76.

Baby Lynette Stephenson of Landover Hills, MD USA passed away on Friday, August 28, 2015. She was the wife of the late Frank Stephenson, mother of Orin Douglas (Pollenetta), Christina Stephenson George (Jermaine), Sherwin Stephenson (Shundel), Laurela Stephenson (Pete London), and George Stephenson (Tyranna), and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Mrs. Christobel Hughes, the mother of Attorney-at-Law and Chairman of the Alliance For Change (AFC), Nigel Hughes has died.

Mrs. Hughes who was in her 80s, was a passenger in a car that was involved in an accident on Saturday evening, died on Sunday at a local hospital.

Audrey Pauline Thorne transitioned into eternal rest on Tuesday, June 2, 2015. Audrey was born on October 20, 1918 to proud parents Iris Lord O'Dell and Arthur Paul O'Dell in Mahaica, Guyana, South America.

Sadly, six weeks after her birth, Audrey's father, Paul, succumbed to the Spanish Flu along with many members of the O'Dell family. Upon her husband's death, Audrey's mother, Iris O'Dell, returned to the Lord family home where her doting grandfather, Edward Stanley Lord, Esq. became the influential male figure in Audrey's life.

George Flemming Jones, former U.S. Ambassador to Guyana whose career in the Foreign Service spanned almost 40 years, died April 20, 2015 in Fairfax, VA of a heart attack, he was 79 years old.

Mr. Jones, a specialist in Latin American affairs, served as U. S. Ambassador to the Republic of Guyana from January 1992 to August 1995.

Eswart Fitzgerald Lake, affectionately known as “Uncle Eswart” or Brother Lake, born in Georgetown, British Guiana on November 25, 1927, was escorted into heaven on April 10, 2015 after a long illness. He died peacefully at his home in Stone Mountain, Georgia.  

John Henry McConey Jr. was born on October 23, 1945 in the Bronx, NY to John Sr. and Marian McConey. He was raised in the Edenwald Houses in the Bronx, with his 3 younger siblings. He graduated from DeWitt Clinton H.S. As a teenager, John was smitten by a beautiful young lady, Mable Carter. The couple married in 1964. They had 4 daughters, Robin, Jill, Melody, and Renee.

Albert (Zick) Eustace Isaacs died on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at age 73 in Ontario, Canada.

Albert was born in Guyana to the late Albert (Sr.) and Irma Isaacs, and was the brother of Yvette, Garth and the late Michael Isaacs.

Albert was a pilot at Guyana Airways, then immigrated to Canada in 1975.

Leslie Melville departed this life on Monday 9th February 2015 at his residence in Maryland, USA. 

Leslie Melville’s life was representative of a man of many roles, titles, and honor.  A nurturing and hardworking stalwart of the working class of Guyana, a respected public servant, devoted and world renowned Trade Unionist, true son and Patriot of Guyana.

Dr. Faith Harding – Minister of Government in the PNC administration and 2011 candidate for the leadership of the PNC died on Friday, January, 23, 2015 at the Mercy hospital in Georgetown Guyana after a period of illness.

Barbara Yvonne Hutt, age 57, of Port St. Lucie, Florida passed away on August 18, 2014.

Barbara was born in Guyana on September 13, 1956. She was predeceased by her father, Albert VanLange.

Legendary Guyanese comedian Habeeb Khan died earlier today at his home in Guyana. He was 78 years old.

Habeeb khan was born on June 15, 1936, one of seven children to "Dr. Khan and Indian and Pauline Geraldine Nurse an African/European" (Habeeb Khan)

Ivor Mendonca Guyana and West Indies Wicket-Keeper and Batsman Cricketer died earlier today.

Ivor Leon Mendonca was born on July 13, 1934 in Bartica, British Guiana (now Guyana) played in two Test Matches for West Indies in 1962.

John "Kevin" O'Dowd passed away peacefully at Carpenter Hospice on Saturday, June 7, 2014. Kevin, son of John Patrick O'Dowd (deceased) and Tessa O'Dowd (now Gonsalves) was born in Guyana on September 20, 1956.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Roger Moore in London, England at 1:53 am on the June 6, 2014 . Roger died peacefully at home surrounded by his mother, brother, sisters, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, niece and friend.

The death is announced of Claudine Millicent Holder (July 11, 1912 - June 3, 2014) at age 101. Her death comes five months after her son Terrence “Terry Holder former General Manager of the merged Radio Demerara and Guyana Broadcasting Service (GBS).

Educator, composer,musician/singer and storyteller. Basil Cuthbert Rodrigues was born at Bullet Tree, Waini River on June 13, 1932 moving to Santa Rosa in 1940.

Mr. John Oliver Farley, age 83, died at his home in Atlantic Gardens on Thursday, April 24^th, 2014.  He died peacefully surrounded by his family with the words of the song “It is well with my soul” comforting him.  We honor the life of John Farley; he was a husband, father brother, uncle friend and mentor.

Deborah Jan Osman-Backer Joined the People‟s National Congress in 1994 and became a candidate for the Party on its list of candidates to contest the Georgetown Municipality Elections of the Year. Following the election Ms. Backer was selected among ten candidates to represent the PNCR in the Georgetown Municipality.

So much has been said about the life of my beloved father Terence Ormonde since January 8th, 2014 when on 73, the umpire gave him out. This time, unlike October 2011, when he asked for a review from the umpire’s decision to the third umpire and had that decision reversed, there was no appeal.

Renowned Guyanese radio broadcaster, Terrence Ormonde Holder died earlier today at the age of 73 after an extended period of illness.

Holder began his broadcasting career at Guyana Broadcasting Service (GBS) in the 1960s. He became senior producer, then General Manager of the Guyana Broadcasting Corporation in the 1990s

Frank Stewart Stevenson, former motor racing champion and well known figure in motor sports in Guyana, died on New Year’s Day in a hospital in Miami.

Stewart, born on November 22, 1953 and was an iconic figure in motor racing in the 1970s wining numerous trophies.

He will be surely missed by all.

Paul Ramlogan, a well-known figure in the Guyanese community in Washington DC and father of Ann Ramlogan-Rice of the Embassy of Guyana died on Thursday November 28, 2013.

Renowned Humanitarian, Ambassador of Peace, United Nations Mentor and Author Ms. Muriel Glasgow has died.

Formerly with UNICEF for over 30 years, Ms Glasgow worked with Governments, NGOs and communities in various countries in drinking water, hygiene and sanitation programs where she designed, developed, implemented strategies to influence UNICEF policies.

Mr. Robert Pinkerton, retired principal of Cambridge Academy of South Road, Georgetown Guyana died on Monday November 18, 2013.

Iris Ramgadoo was born on February 10, 1922 in Plantation Albion, Corentyne, Guyana. Her father was Rajaram (also known as Basil Madhoo) and her mother was Parkalia (also known as Sarah). Her father came from India in 1894 to Guyana at the age of two with his mother Usafy Shanker.

The staff at Guyana Graphic are very saddened to hear of the death of Ms. Gail  Ng-A-Kien the wife of retired Motor Racing Champion Clive Ng-A-Kien.

Olga Evelyn Moore was born on May 19 1927 in Ann’s Grove Village, East Coast Demerara, Guyana to Vincent &Winifred Moore (nee Sancho).

Mrs. Joenetha Veronica Thijs nee Rodrigues formerly of Georgetown Guyana, passed away on Thursday June 19, 2008 at the Peter Laugheed Center, Calgary, Alberta at the age of 83 years. Mrs. Joenetha Veronica Thijs is survived by her husband of 61 years William Henry John Thijs.

Oscar Henry, also known as Joe Phil, was a founding member of the Committee for the Improvement of Buxton (CIMBUX). He was a committed member of the Board of Directors and came to be regarded as the spirit of the organization.

She was the middle child of William & Isabella, having been born after Claude McKenzie and before Clarice Liverpool.

Anthony N. Austin, 55, of Pembroke Pines, passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2013. He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Austin; daughters, Gerianne Austin and Jenna Austin; son, Neil Austin;

Sisters, Collette Huntley, Erna Patricia Christiani, Desiree Croal, Elizabeth Cossiah and Hazelann Walker; brother, Clement Austin; grandson, Antonio and many nieces and nephews including his namesake, Anthony.

Anthony Neil Luckie Austin passed quietly on May 1, 2013 in Hollywood Florida. He was the Son of Madlaine and Samuel Austin (deceased). Husband of Jackie Austin of St Lucia. Father of Geri Ann,(Guyana) Jenna (Florida) and Neil (St Lucia) Grandfather of Antonio (Guyana). Brother of Collette, Pat, Desiree, Clement, Elizabeth and Ann. Several Nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces.

Vernon "Lou" Hlubek, a Navy veteran who hunted enemy submarines from blimps and served on a military operation in Antarctica, died Sunday of complications from a recent fall, his family said. He was 89. Mr. Hlubek (pronounced lu-bek) was a Midwestern farm boy who joined the Navy in 1942 and traveled around the world.

The Alliance For Change (AFC) regrets the passing of Mrs Serojny Merle Ramayya, wife of Dr. Versammy Ramayya MP and member, sister and friend of the AFC.

Mrs Ramayya or Merle as she was commonly known, was a kind and humble person who provided quiet and dignified support to her family and the AFC family. She will best be remembered for her willingness to serve and dedication to her family. She co-hosted the first-ever Berbice held AFC National Executive Committee leadership meeting at Whim on February 9, last.

Jeane Audrey Thom (nee Went), passed away on March 5, 2013 at Laurel Regional Hospital, Laurel Maryland, USA after a brief illness.

She was born on July 14, 1950 in Georgetown, Guyana to the late John and Ordelia Went. She completed her elementary and secondary education in Guyana before migrating to Montreal Canada in 1969. She earned her nursing diploma at Dawson College in 1976 and joined Sir Mortimer B. Davis Memorial Hospital, Montreal as an registered nurse (RN) in the post op department until 1989.

The son of a former vicar, Edwin Moulder was educated at Queen's College, in Georgetown, where he won the Guiana Scholarship in 1891, and at Merton College, Oxford. He gained third class honours in History in 1895. He qualified as a Bachelor of Arts in 1896 and served as Assistant Master, Lodge School, Barbados, from 1899 to 1901.

On May 24, 1918, Monroe and Myrtle (Wood) Knupp gave birth to their eighth child. Clarence Jean Knupp (CJ) in Warren, Pennsylvania. CJ was the second youngest of six brothers and three sisters. CJ grew up in a house near Warren in the village of Starbrick. He then met the love of his life Mildred Marcella Beck (Milly). 

On Monday, May 15, 1950, a daughter was born to the late John and Eloise “Aunt Lorna” Craigwell in Middle Road, La Penitence, Georgetown, in British Guiana, later Guyana. As the last girl, Jean Bernadette was preceded by Floreen, Louis Urbane, Claudette, and followed by Antoine.

Benjamin Yhap, age 61, died May 9, 2005 at his home in West Covina, Los Angeles County, California. He was born January 2, 1944 in Guyana. Mr. Yhap was an accomplished musician. He and a few friends formed the band "Chet and the Diamonds" and were popular in Guyana in the 1960's.

Ms. Eloise Craigwell passed away on October 30, 2006, in Hyattsville Maryland, USA. She was born in Georgetown Guyana on September 22, 1922, to Louis Daniel and Barbara Alice McCurdy.

Lottie Helena Bobb was born on September 16, 1897 to Malachi and Margaret Bobb of Christianburg, Demerara River. She attended the Christianburg Scott School and then Christianburg High School. She married Joseph Oscar Rodney in June 1923

Most of you must be surprised that I am speaking to you on this occasion. I myself was a bit surprised when Bonita asked me to do so – but only momentarily. Knowing Bonita, I realised that she was doing so in a quest for reconciliation and healing for our country – a goal she has pursued her entire life; often at tremendous sacrifice.

Canada-based Guyanese singer, Pamela Maynard died on Sunday after a long battle with breast cancer, her daughters announced on her Facebook Page.

Locally, relatives began receiving the sad news about the passing of the former member of the Guyana Defence Force.

Rojeana Auriel Hall died earlier today at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville Florida from complications of Cystic Fibrosis. She was 19 years old.

Auriel (as she was known) was born on June 27, 1993 to Robert Edmund Hall and Monique Archer Hall and was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis (CF) when she was seven months old.

Eileen Parvatan - Peacefully with her family by her side, Eileen passed on her birthday, November 2, 2011, at the age of 86. Cherished mother of Ward, Donald, Ann, Ivor, Donna, Gregory and Paul. "Granny" will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren and her "Great-Grans".

Former Commissioner of Police, Henry Alphonso Fraser, died around 1:00 am yesterday morning at St Joseph Mercy Hospital. He was 88 years old.

Mr. Fraser was the owner of a property management firm that manages rental properties for Guyanese Living abroad and was always “on the job."

The unanticipated death of Denis Williams after a short bout with cancer deprived Guyana of a remarkably versatile native son.

His early promise as a painter won him a two-year British Council scholarship to the Camberwell School of Art in London in 1946. He remained in London during the following decade, during which he taught fine art and held several one-man shows of his work.

Clarence F. Ellis, 80, a former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Guyana and Vice Chairman of the State Planning Commission, who has also served as an Alternate Executive Director at the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank for Guyana and other CARICOM countries, died April 17 in a hospital in Washington, DC, U.S.A., after a long illness. He lived in Bowie, Maryland, U.S.A.

Wordsworth McAndrew was born in 1936 to Winslow Alexander McAndrew and Ivy McAndrew and grew up in Cummingsburg and Newtown, Kitty. He attended Christ Church Primary School and Queen's College.

Hank Parvatan, the son of Vibert Parvatan, Director of Laparkan Trading died in Canada five days after he had left Guyana where he had attended his uncle's funeral.

Hank Parvatan, 27, (November 29, 1979 - March 7, 2007) a former pupil of St Margaret's Primary School, died yesterday at the Ajax/Pickering Hospital in Canada.

Oscar Parvaton - Magistrate. Former Principal Magistrate Oscar Parvatan (February 26, 1931 - February 20, 2007) who sang calypsos as Prince Nehru in his youthful days, died yesterday at his brother's Kingston, Georgetown residence after a prolonged illness. He was 75.
