A common fight must have a common strategy: The fate of Guyana’s No-Confidence Vote
Many people have asked me why, despite their legislative majority, the opposition in Guyana have, since 2001, allowed the PPP ant its Executive Government to out-maneuver them. They are of course referring to the latest confusion surrounding the AFC-sponsored no-confidence vote. We now discover that it is the Executive Government and not the Speaker which has the power to convene parliament.

AFC Fine Tunes Election Strategy

The Alliance For Change (AFC) today held a high-energy meeting to finalise its strategy as the Party prepares for General Elections early next year.
Representatives from all ten Administrative Regions of Guyana gathered at the Georgetown Club in the city with representatives from the Diaspora joining by Skype to put details to the AFC strategy that will guide the AFC at the 2015 Polls. There were a number of youth and women members of the AFC represented at the meeting.

The Guyana Chronicle editorial dated July 16, 2014 reflects the PPPC’s rapid, dangerous and de-structive descent into irrelevancy and desperate race baiting. The offensive editorial makes several claims which appear to serve no purpose but to engage in the politics of fear by stirring up racial divisions and panic among the citizens of Guyana.

The GTUC in taking note of GuySuCo’s announcement it has surpassed production target advises the nation there is nothing to celebrate. The target set by GuySuCo is way below capacity and investment of billions of dollars of taxpayers’ money in the form of loans and grants. Surpassing a five-figure target when the industry has historically produced at six-figure levels is the waving of a white flag that the industry is in distress and requires salvaging. The nation ought not be fooled by the publicly stunt aimed at hoodwinking the citizens/workers that the industry is turning around. When taking into consideration that the market availability allows GuySuCo to sell all the sugar it has the capacity to produce, yet at the same time targets are set far below its capacity, is a reflection of management deficiencies. It exemplifies the failure to pull all the factors of production together which will cause the company to deliver at its optimum based on the existing market conditions.
