Expatriates and Returning Home
Toronto, Canada - When expatriates leave their homeland to seek a future elsewhere, it is not very often that they return to resettle in the country of their birth. As they get older and become established, some plan their retirement by buying real estate somewhere warm but avoid Guyana. Others stay where they have taken up residence and a small percentage look for opportunities to resettle in the homeland.
Restarting a life in Guyana can be as simple as buying some land, building a home and living off of a North American pension amount. For someone who wants to reintegrate into the Guyanese working environment, this is another matter. It can be an exciting venture if properly thought out but expatriates need to be open minded. Being brought up for decades in a French environment, I knew that integrating into the Guyanese working world would have its challenges. But first for me, the political landscape would have to be stable and, for years, I did not feel right in leaving my new hometown.
Nothing to Fear
In the last day, many have commented on the relative absence of our Guyanese (East Indian) brothers and sisters from the public ritual of transitioning from the old government to the new.
My observation to all of us who seem sensitive to this is as follows.
APNU/AFC Rally in Lethem by Aubrey LaCruz
Just back from APNU+AFC rally in Lethem. Here are the highlights as I remember them. There was a fair size crowd, rough estimate about 2500 or more.
Region 9 has some of largest fresh water otter and fish in the world. Also the largest Eagle in the world. On the negative side region 9 is one of the poorest regions in Guyana. In education in last CXC examination there was only 28% pass rate. That is 3 in every 4 students failed their exams. In mathematics not one region 9 student got a grade one result.
The Guyana Trades Union Congress 2015 Arrival Day Message
GTUC congratulates all Guyanese as we mark another Arrival Day. For we, more than most, can truly celebrate the diversity of The People Who Came. GTUC commends the idea of identifying a day where the various racial groups can together reflect on their arrival and contributions in the building of this nation.

Rebuttal to the Guyana Times Article “APNU-AFC forbids opposing views”
I read the article in the Guyana Times published on March 28, 2015 titled “APNU-AFC forbids opposing views” and I can without hesitation say that the reporting is incorrect.
I was there at the APMU/AFC campaign event at Narissa Palace in Queens, NY on March 22, 2015 and was personally involved. The facts are as follows:
I was about 15 feet away from the elderly gentleman mentioned in the Guyana Times article, who was sitting close to the back of the room when I heard someone in a raised voice saying “this man is interrupting the meeting and is a PPP supporter.” I immediately approached the gentleman and told the three or four persons who were agitated about his comments that I would handle the situation and that it will be ok.
Civility Must be a Part of the Way Forward for Guyana
Perusing the APNU + AFC, North America support group brought me to some commentary by Bryan Benn Sr.
I am an ardent supporter of the APNU/AFC unity party and Mr. Benn professes to be a supporter too, but it is hard to imagine we support the same party for the same reasons based on some of the discourse on the group page.
A Day of Mourning for Courtney Crum-Ewing
I believe that the Government, and the opposition parties in Guyana MUST set aside a national day of mourning for Courtney Crum-Ewing,
Any person who is executed while peacefully encouraging his fellow citizens to engage in the democratic process of voting must be acknowledged as a friend of all the peace loving citizens of the world.
