New species of Arapaima - A fresh water fish in the Amazon, discovered

"Arapaima"One of the largest freshwater fish is the Arapaima which lives in Tropical South America in a region between Brazil and Guyana. They can grow to a length of 3 meters and can weigh a massive 200 kilograms. They are unique fishes since they breathe through a primitive form of lungs. They inhabit in oxygen poor environment.

A magnitude 6.1(Richter Scale) earthquake centered 33km North of Gueiria, Venezuela occurred at 02:10:20 UTC (10.10 pm local time Guyana). The earthquake was felt in northern Guyana along the coast and according to reports as far south as Linden, and Bartica.

The quake was at a depth of 49.3 miles (79.4km) at location 10.877°N, 62.278°W

The 2,850 sq ft property with five bedrooms 3.5 baths was built in 1995 and is located in Sunrise, Florida was on the market for $424,900.

How the rise of the sea level will affect Guyana

Google has developed a map with information based primarily on version 2 of NASA's Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) that depicts the effects of flooding on Guyana with various rising sea levels.

The maps shows that a two meter sea level rise will create uninhabitable conditions for much of Guyana coastline from the Essequibo regions to Courantyne, and as far as 20 miles inland in the Demerara and Berbice and Courantyne regions.

Guyana to drop charge against Irish teen accused of threatening president

GEORGETOWN, Guyana - Guyana's government says it plans to drop charges against an Irish teenager who was accused earlier this year with threatening to shoot and kill the president of the South American country.

Public prosecutions director Shalimar Ali Hack wrote a letter stating he was dropping criminal proceedings against 17-year-old Cillian James Crossan.
