Linden protest turns deadly as Police open fire on civillians

At least three persons were killed yesterday when police oppened fire on protesters in Linden.

Among the dead as confirmed by Linden hospital officials are:
• Selwyn Boyea, 18, of Wisroc Park
• Ron Somerset, 19;
• Allan Williams, 54, of Wisroc

The purchase of an armored vehicle equipped with a water cannon has announced a new era by the current administration in dealing with potential civil unrest in Guyana.

Water cannons were first used for crowd control in Nazi Germany in the 1930’s and since then many tyrannical nations like Libya etc. procured water cannons from Britain to quell citizen revolt.

Woman found dead outside shop on Soesdyke/Linden Highway

A mother of six was found dead one mile from where she lived. She is suspected to have been raped and then murdered. Judith “Judy” Joseph, 56, of Swan Turn, Soesdyke/Linden Highway was discovered at about 04:41h on Monday morning outside a small shop in the village where a Mother’s Day "get-together" was held on Sunday evening.

Security guard found with throat slashed at place of employment

Another murder today rocked the community of Enmore, East Coast Demerara when a security guard was found with his throat slashed and his head bashed in. Dead is dead is Sixty Year Old security guard Rudolph Narine of lot F 51, Cemetery Road, Enmore East Coast Demerara.

The United Minibus Union (UMU) yesterday said that they have it is determined to go to court if government unilaterally puts minibus fare-setting in the hands of the Public Utilities Commission (PUC), even as talks collapsed over whether commuters should pay more.

The resident of Plum Park Sophia Georgetown, are concerned about their main access road when it rains. Just after 24hours or rain the main access road turned in to a pool. "Just look at the main road, when they come to make it they do something hurry up and done." one resident told Guyana Graphic reporter.

One person dies after being rescued from submerged vehicle

One of three persons who were rescued from the Sussex Street Canal on Saturday evening after a taxi lost control and careened off a bridge subsequently succumbed at the Georgetown Public Hospital while receiving medical attention. Dead is Seventeen year old Elbert Thom of Lot 181, Grove Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, while his mother, Alma Thom who also received injuries was treated and sent away.

Taxi driver found dead, bound and gagged on the side of the road

A taxi driver was early Thursday morning found bound and gagged outside a house in Enmore, East Coast Demerara. The name of the dead man as Ravindra Puran. He was 40 years old. Police sources said that his body bore marks of violence. Family members say he left his home at Diamond, East Bank Demerara around 9 PM to work. He never returned, prompting family members to report him missing to police.
