The Department of State, Office of Visa Services, advises the public of a notable increase and reporting of fraudulent emails and letters sent to Diversity Immigrant Visa (DV) program (Visa Lottery) applicants. The scammers behind these fraudulent emails and letters pose as the U.S. government, and attempt to extract payment or favor from DV applicants.

Winston Overton was born in Georgetown, British Guiana, now officially known as The Cooperative Republic of Guyana.

Dr. Andrew Short is a National Geographic Explorer and an assistant professor of
 Ecology & Evolutionary Biology at the University of Kansas. An entomologist by training, Short uses aquatic insects to study patterns of freshwater biodiversity in South America to inform both science and conservation.

Since 2002, I have been visiting Guyana annually. Articles on my first trip after 30 years away and another 10 years later were published earlier in this newspaper. Since my trips to the homeland, my love and interest for the country, especially the Essequibo region, grew to the point of me planning an extended stay sometime in the future.
