Residents upset at road conditions in Plum Park Sophia

The resident of Plum Park Sophia Georgetown, are concerned about their main access road when it rains. Just after 24hours or rain the main access road turned in to a pool. "Just look at the main road, when they come to make it they do something hurry up and done." one resident told Guyana Graphic reporter.

It was considered a red letter day in the history of air transport when the Ogle International Airport commissioned the expanded 4,200 feet long runway this afternoon, raising Guyana’s image in the aviation sector and allowing for LIAT Dash-8 300 and medium range jets such as the Cessna Citation series to be accommodated. In the presence of the group of private aircraft owners and officials of the funding agency, the European Union, President Donald Ramotar advocated for low airfares, alluding to the advantages derived from such offers.

Barbados may help rescue REDjet

Prime Minister Freundel Stuart says his administration has not turned its back on REDjet, insisting that the airline would not be treated as “some cast-off child”. Speaking at a public meeting of his ruling Democratic Labour Party (DLP), Stuart said that some concerns still needed to be addressed about the carrier before the government could consider investing in its operations. Last month, a senior Barbados government minister said that efforts were being made to have REDjet resume operations within a two-month period.

One person dies after being rescued from submerged vehicle

One of three persons who were rescued from the Sussex Street Canal on Saturday evening after a taxi lost control and careened off a bridge subsequently succumbed at the Georgetown Public Hospital while receiving medical attention. Dead is Seventeen year old Elbert Thom of Lot 181, Grove Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, while his mother, Alma Thom who also received injuries was treated and sent away.

A taxi driver was early Thursday morning found bound and gagged outside a house in Enmore, East Coast Demerara. The name of the dead man as Ravindra Puran. He was 40 years old. Police sources said that his body bore marks of violence. Family members say he left his home at Diamond, East Bank Demerara around 9 PM to work. He never returned, prompting family members to report him missing to police.
